Alignment
The tighter tolerances and faster production speeds increasingly needed by today’s industries demand precision alignments. We identify and resolve alignment problems quickly, efficiently and with precision. Whether it’s position accuracy of a machine tool, large aircraft section in final body-to-body join assembly, drive shaft to paper mill rollers, hydroelectric turbines, fixtures and jigs ECM offers a wide range of on-site signature precision alignment solutions.
A leveled foundation for a machine improves its availability. A sheet-processing assembly, comprised of a sheet-processing machine with a transfer conveyor having a number of transport rollers, has a paper roller that is misaligned. The position error of this roller causes problems with paper quality, tearing and inconsistency. To minimize waste product and maintenance costs, the straightness of the paper roller needs to be restored. The most effective solution involves adjusting the rotation-axis orientation of the individual roll in relation to other rolls with reference to a given datum. The points measured on the paper roller (cylinder) verify the form of the roller.

Applications
Components of a stamping press, head and fixed position die support or press anvil, are aligned along the press axis eliminating excessive die wear, breakage of the die parts and inaccuracies in stamping.
We inspect machine level and flatness, parallelism, squareness and 2-axis straightness measurements of the slideways are completed for operational efficiency.
We measure for the straightness and center of bores and bearings of varying diameters in engines, compressors, turbines and pumps. Bores are checked to verify that they are one another and along the centerline of the rotating shaft.
Our services take into account precision surface plates provide the best reference plane for work inspection and layout.
Weapon platforms which are equipped with onboard guns or missile launching systems demand precise functioning requiring the axes of these onboard systems to be measured and setup with respect to one another and referenced to fuselage axis. Boresighting alignment minimizes harmonization time during assembly.
Portable in-process dimensional inspection of an outer hull or hull test specimen is compared to nominal CAD model for conformability. The outer hull is aligned against the nominal model using measured data resulting in a rapid and reliable comparison and evaluation of the variation in the outer hull’s geometry. Aligning catapult covers and launch rails on aircraft carrier is also part of our service.
Typical tasks support reconstruction of rail lines which have to fit to existing parts, realignment due to rail maintenance or construction of a new rail line.
Poor web tracking, web/sheet wrinkling, inaccurate press registration and accelerated wear of hardware are related to misalignment of press components. We perform precision roller setting adjustments of the press equipment for optimal performancein terms of image quality, productivity and fault tolerance.
From private ships to military ships we provide precision propulsion alignments for the shipbuilding industry that ensure optimum propulsive efficiency and proper gear tooth contact over a wide range of operating conditions. The result is increased performance and reliability of the gears and shaft bearings.
We can provide leadership alignment solutions for the nuclear industry during refurbishing activities. Exacting alignment of the nuclear reactor vessel, vessel head, core barrel and upper support structure at the mating extensions and receptacles assure proper lateral orientation and stability of the reactor components during operation.
Our alignment solution for rolling mills involves setting a series of rollers so that they are at the same height and coaxial.
Industries using jigs and fixtures are used in the manufacturing process for exacting positioning to ensure proper fabrication and assembly tolerance of a part. The setting and control features (e.g. stop pins, clamp pads and stop holes) on the jigs and fixtures require precise alignment during construction and verification. Our alignment services offer on-site positional accuracy of jig and fixture geometry.
